Hurricane, tropical storm, and straight-line wind damage. Same-day tarping, full insurance documentation, and repair or replacement on a written timeline.
South Louisiana sees more named storms than almost anywhere in the country. Wind takes shingles off, lifts edge metal, breaks ridge caps, and tears flashing loose. We have rebuilt roofs after Laura, Delta, and Ida and we have repaired smaller wind damage from spring and summer storms. The work is part roofing, part documentation, part patience with the insurance side.
What wind does to a roof.
Lifted shingles. Wind lifts the tab and breaks the seal at the manufacturer-applied adhesive line. The shingle drops back down but no longer seals to the row below.
Creased shingles. The shingle gets folded back at the seal line and creases. The crease becomes a future failure point.
Missing shingles. Wind tears whole shingles off. Most often along the rake (gable edge) or at the ridge.
Damaged ridge caps. The peak takes the worst wind. Ridge caps fail first.
Torn or lifted underlayment. Visible at the eaves and rakes after the shingles go.
Damaged flashing. Step flashing along walls and chimney flashing can lift or tear in high wind.
Lifted edge metal. Drip edge that has bent up. Often a launch point for further damage in the next storm.
Debris damage. Wind-driven branches, lawn furniture, and debris that strike the roof and tear shingles.
Our wind damage process.
1. Emergency response if needed. If you have an active leak or missing roof sections, we tarp the same day or next morning across Acadiana.
2. Free inspection. We climb every slope and document with photos. Wind damage often hides on the leeward side of the roof too, where shingles have lifted but not blown off.
3. Written damage report. Photos, damage map, and report. You get a copy. The adjuster gets a copy when they request it.
4. You file the claim. Open the claim with your insurer. We send our documentation.
5. Adjuster meeting on the roof. We meet your adjuster on site. We show them what we found.
6. Insurance scope review. Read the approved scope together. Flag anything missing.
7. Repair or replacement. Targeted repair for isolated damage. Replacement when damage is widespread or shingles cannot be matched.
8. Supplements as needed. Tear-off often reveals damage the adjuster could not see from above. We supplement.
9. Depreciation recovery. Submit final paperwork to release the depreciation portion of your claim.
Why pick us after a wind event.
Local crews on local roads. Faster response than out-of-state storm chasers, especially when traveling crews are overbooked after a hurricane.
We answer the phone. Real person, real callback, especially during active weather.
Insurance-grade documentation. Time-stamped photos, damage maps, written reports. Adjusters work with us.
Honest answers. If the damage does not warrant a claim, we tell you. We do not push you to file something that will get denied.
No deductible games. Waiving deductibles is illegal in Louisiana. We do not do it.
Hurricane vs straight-line wind: what insurance cares about.
The signature on the roof looks similar but the insurance treatment can differ.
Hurricane / named storm
Triggers the named-storm deductible on most Louisiana policies. Often a percentage of dwelling coverage rather than a flat amount. Out-of-pocket can be significant. Coverage is broad.
Straight-line wind
Standard wind deductible applies, usually lower. Often a flat dollar amount. Coverage typically applies the same way.
Read your declarations page before a storm hits so the numbers are not a surprise. We can walk you through the relevant sections.
After the storm: first steps.
Stay off the roof. Wet decking after a storm is dangerous. Wait for us.
Move what you can. Buckets under active drips. Move furniture and electronics away from leaks.
Photograph from the ground. Wide shots of the home, close shots of any visible damage, and interior shots of ceiling stains.
Call your insurer to open the claim. Get the claim number ready before we arrive.
Call us. Same-day tarp where needed, free inspection either way.
Where we respond.
Same coverage area as our other storm work. Wind events get priority routing during active weather.
What does wind damage look like on a shingle roof?
Lifted, creased, or missing shingles, almost always on the side of the roof that faced the storm. Damaged ridge caps at the peak. Torn underlayment visible at the eaves. Sometimes wind-driven debris embedded in the shingles.
Can wind damage a roof without taking shingles off?
Yes. Wind can lift shingles, crease them at the seal line, and let them drop back down. The shingle looks fine from the ground but the seal is broken and the shingle will leak in the next heavy rain.
How fast can you respond after a high-wind event?
Emergency tarping is usually same-day or next-morning across Acadiana for active leaks or open sections. After a major hurricane, every roofer in the region is at capacity, but local crews still respond faster than out-of-state storm chasers.
Will my insurance cover wind damage?
Most Louisiana homeowner policies cover wind damage including hurricane wind, though hurricane coverage often carries a separate (and higher) deductible. We document the damage so your claim has what it needs.
What is hurricane deductible?
In Louisiana, most insurance policies have a separate, higher deductible for named storms (tropical storms and hurricanes). It is often a percentage of your dwelling coverage rather than a flat dollar amount, which means the out-of-pocket can be significant. Check your policy declarations page.
Will you tarp my roof if I cannot reach my insurance?
Yes. Active water entry is an emergency that should not wait for an insurance call. We tarp first, document for the claim, and submit the tarp invoice to your insurer once the claim is open. Most policies cover reasonable emergency mitigation.
How long do wind damage repairs take?
Emergency tarping is hours. Permanent repairs and replacements depend on insurance approval and scope, typically one to four weeks from claim approval to crew on site.
