Windows are the one thing on a house you look at from both sides every day. Between spring pollen, sprinkler spotting, and the film that builds up in our humidity, most Acadiana homes lose a noticeable amount of light through the glass without anyone connecting the two.

What the job includes.

• Exterior glass. Washed and squeegeed by hand, then edges wiped so there is no drip line left at the bottom.
• Interior glass. Optional, and worth doing at least once a year. Somebody needs to be home for it.
• Screens. Pulled, washed, dried, and put back in the same opening they came out of.
• Tracks and sills. Vacuumed and wiped. This is where the grit lives that dirties the glass again after the first rain.
• Frames and grids. Wiped down so the whole opening looks clean, not just the middle of the pane.
• Hard water spotting. Treated where the glass is not already etched. We check first and tell you what to expect.

Our process.

1. 1. Count and check. We walk the house, count openings, and look for cracked panes, failed seals, or fogged double panes so nothing gets blamed on us later.
2. 2. Screens out first. They come out, get washed, and dry while we work the glass.
3. 3. Wash, squeegee, detail. Solution on the glass, squeegee across, then the edges get wiped by hand. That last step is the whole difference between clean and streaked.
4. 4. Tracks and sills. Vacuumed out and wiped down before screens go back in.
5. 5. Walk it with you. We look at the glass from inside with you, because that is where you will notice anything we missed.

Why glass gets bad here.

Spring pollen in Acadiana coats everything, and the first rain after it turns that dust into a film that dries on the glass. Sprinklers hitting the same windows every morning leave mineral spots that build up over years. Humidity holds all of it in place. Windows on the shaded side of the house pick up the same mildew film the siding does.

Twice a year keeps it easy. Once a year is enough for most homes if the sprinklers are not hitting the glass. Leave it much longer than that and the mineral spotting starts etching, which is permanent and no cleaner fixes it.
