Metal roofing

Metal roofing across Acadiana.

Standing seam and exposed-fastener metal systems for homes and outbuildings across Lafayette, Opelousas, and South Louisiana. Real hurricane performance. 40 to 60 year lifespan.

Metal roofing costs more up front than asphalt shingles. It also lasts roughly twice as long, sheds water faster in a heavy rain, and often qualifies for a Louisiana insurance discount. For the right home and the right owner, it is the better long-term call.

What we install in metal.

  • Standing seam panels. Hidden-fastener system. Premium look, premium lifespan, premium price. The most common residential metal install.
  • 24- and 26-gauge steel. 24-gauge is heavier and more dent-resistant. 26-gauge is standard for most residential applications.
  • Kynar 500 / PVDF coatings. Premium paint finish that holds color and resists chalking for decades. The coating matters more than the brand on the panel.
  • R-panel and exposed-fastener panels. Cost-effective metal option for outbuildings, additions, agricultural buildings, and certain residential applications.
  • 5V crimp panels. Traditional exposed-fastener panel often used in coastal and rural Louisiana settings.
  • Snap-lock and mechanically-seamed standing seam. Two install methods for standing seam systems. Mechanically-seamed is the higher wind rating option.
  • Synthetic high-temp underlayment. Required under metal because asphalt-saturated felt can melt and stick at metal-panel temperatures.
  • Trim, flashing, and gutter integration. Ridge cap, hip cap, valley flashing, eave flashing, drip edge, and tie-in to gutter systems.

Our metal install process.

  1. 1. Inspection and quote. We walk the roof, measure, photograph problem areas, and hand you a written quote.
  2. 2. Pick the system. Standing seam vs exposed fastener, panel profile, gauge, color, coating. We bring samples.
  3. 3. Schedule. Metal installs run longer than shingle installs, so scheduling has a wider window. Materials sometimes have a 2 to 4 week lead time.
  4. 4. Tear-off and decking inspection. Old roof comes off. Decking gets inspected and replaced where rotten.
  5. 5. Underlayment. High-temp synthetic underlayment goes down. Ice-and-water shield at valleys, penetrations, and eaves.
  6. 6. Panel install. Panels cut to length, set in place, and locked or seamed. Hidden fasteners on standing seam, exposed at proper spacing on R-panel.
  7. 7. Trim and flashing. Ridge, hip, valley, eave, and rake trim. Penetrations boots. Wall transitions.
  8. 8. Final walk and warranty. We hand over panel manufacturer warranty plus our written workmanship warranty.

Why pick us for metal.

  • We install metal regularly. Not a once-a-year project for us. Local crews trained on standing seam specifics.
  • Right gauge for the application. We do not upsell 24-gauge when 26 is right for the roof. We do not undersell either.
  • Underlayment matched to the system. High-temp synthetic under metal, every time. Standard felt fails under metal panels.
  • Hidden fastener detail. Standing seam done right has no exposed fasteners on the field. We install to that standard.
  • Coordinated gutter and flashing. Metal roofs only work when the gutter and flashing system tie in cleanly. We handle both.

Metal options compared.

Standing seam

Hidden-fastener premium metal. Cleanest look. Longest life. Best wind rating.

Lifespan: 40 to 60 years.

R-panel

Exposed-fastener panel. Cost-effective. Common on outbuildings and certain residential.

Lifespan: 25 to 40 years.

5V crimp

Traditional exposed-fastener panel. Distinctive ridged profile. Used in coastal and rural Louisiana.

Lifespan: 25 to 40 years.

What a metal roof costs.

Standing seam metal roofs on average-sized Acadiana homes typically run $24,000 to $40,000 in 2026. Exposed-fastener systems run less, often $14,000 to $22,000. Cost drivers include square footage, panel system, gauge, coating, and roof complexity.

Metal usually pays back over its lifespan when compared to asphalt. A metal roof that lasts 50 years versus two asphalt roofs in the same period often costs less per year. Add the Louisiana insurance discount that many metal roofs qualify for and the math tightens further.

Metal roofing FAQ

Common questions about metal.

How much more does a metal roof cost than shingles?
Metal typically runs 50 to 100 percent more than asphalt on the same home. A roof that costs $14,000 in architectural shingles often costs $24,000 to $30,000 in standing seam metal. Lifespan is roughly double, so the cost per year is often similar.
How long does a metal roof last in Louisiana?
Standing seam metal lasts 40 to 60 years in Acadiana climate when installed correctly. Exposed-fastener systems run 25 to 40 years because the fasteners eventually need attention. Lifespan depends on coating quality, gauge, and install detailing.
Is metal roofing loud during rain?
On a properly built modern home, no. Metal installed over solid decking and underlayment sounds similar to a shingle roof in rain. The "tin roof" sound people remember is from open-frame barn installs without decking underneath.
Will a metal roof get hot in Acadiana summer?
Metal actually reflects heat better than asphalt, especially in lighter colors. Cool-rated metal panels are an Energy Star option that further reduces heat gain. Attic temperatures often run cooler under metal than under dark asphalt.
Standing seam or exposed-fastener metal: which one for my home?
Standing seam is the premium choice for residential. Hidden fasteners, cleaner look, longer lifespan. Exposed-fastener (also called R-panel or 5V crimp) is cost-effective for outbuildings, barns, and certain residential applications where the look fits.
Does a metal roof help with home insurance?
Often yes. Many Louisiana insurers offer discounts for metal roofs, especially when installed to wind-rated specifications. The discount varies by carrier. We can give you the installation details your insurer will want to see.
Can I install metal over my existing shingles?
In some cases yes, with battens or a separator layer to keep the metal off the shingle granules. We generally recommend tear-off so we can inspect and replace any rotten decking. We tell you what makes sense for your specific roof.
What gauge metal do you install?
Most residential standing seam goes on in 24- or 26-gauge. 24-gauge is heavier and more dent-resistant. 26-gauge is the standard for cost-conscious installs. We recommend gauge based on panel system and how exposed your roof is.
