Asphalt shingles are on roughly 80 percent of the homes in Acadiana for good reason. They handle our heat, hold up to wind, and cost a fraction of metal. The difference between a shingle roof that lasts 25 years and one that fails at 12 is not the brand on the bundle. It is how the roof was installed.
What we install in asphalt.
- Atlas architectural shingles. Our most common install. Dimensional layered shingles, deep color blends, strong wind ratings, longer-term Atlas Pro Gold warranty options.
- Atlas designer shingles. Premium architectural profiles that look like slate, shake, or other higher-end materials at a fraction of the cost.
- Class 4 impact-resistant shingles. Highest UL 2218 impact rating. Holds up better to hail and may qualify for a Louisiana insurance discount.
- Algae-resistant shingles. Most Atlas lines include the algae resistance that matters in our humid climate.
- Synthetic underlayment. Modern synthetic instead of old felt paper. Lighter, stronger, more tear-resistant during install.
- Ice-and-water shield. Around penetrations, in valleys, and along eaves. Stops water intrusion at the most vulnerable parts of the roof.
- Hip and ridge cap shingles. Matched to the field shingle, sealed properly at the ridge, ventilated where required.
- Drip edge, valley metal, and step flashing. The metal details that determine whether the roof leaks.
Our asphalt install process.
- 1. Inspection and quote. We climb the roof, measure, and hand you a written quote with materials, labor, and timeline.
- 2. Pick the shingle. Color, profile (architectural vs designer), warranty level, optional impact-resistant upgrade. Physical samples on site.
- 3. Schedule the install. Most replacements get on the calendar in one to three weeks.
- 4. Tear-off. Old shingles, underlayment, and damaged flashing come off. Trailer hauls them away same day.
- 5. Underlayment and details. Synthetic underlayment goes down. Ice-and-water shield in valleys, around penetrations, and along eaves. Drip edge installed.
- 6. Shingles. Starter course at the eaves, then the field shingles up the slope to the ridge. Nailed to manufacturer spec, sealed at the right spots.
- 7. Hip and ridge, vent boots, flashing. Ridge caps, pipe boots, and step flashing finish the system.
- 8. Walk and warranty. Magnetic nail sweep of the yard. Warranty paperwork handed over.
Why pick us for an asphalt roof.
- Atlas Pro Gold certification matters. Most contractors install Atlas. Fewer install to the spec that qualifies for the longer warranty.
- Nail placement, not just nail count. Shingles installed with nails too high or too low fail in wind even when the bundle count is right. Our crews are trained on the nail line.
- Underlayment that matches the shingle warranty. A 30-year shingle warranty on 15-pound felt is a contradiction. We pair the underlayment to the shingle.
- Ventilation built into the install. Ridge venting and intake venting that meets manufacturer spec. Without it, attic heat kills shingle life and may void the warranty.
- Local crews, year-round. Our team installs in Acadiana every week. They know how our heat affects sealant timing and how to plan around afternoon thunderstorms.
Shingle tiers at a glance.
Standard architectural
The default for most Acadiana homes. Layered profile, wind ratings to 130 mph, 25-to-30 year life.
Best for: Most homeowners on a typical budget.
Class 4 impact-resistant
Highest UL impact rating. Resists hail damage. May qualify for an insurance discount in Louisiana.
Best for: Homes in storm-prone areas, hail history.
Designer profile
Premium architectural that looks like slate or shake. Distinctive curb appeal at lower cost than the real material.
Best for: Higher-end homes where the look matters.
What an asphalt roof costs.
Most asphalt shingle replacements on average-sized Acadiana homes run $9,000 to $18,000 in 2026. Designer profiles add 20 to 40 percent. Class 4 impact-resistant shingles add a smaller premium that often pays back through a Louisiana insurance discount over a few years.
Cost drivers include square footage, pitch, roof complexity, decking condition (itemized separately if rot is found), shingle tier, and underlayment system.
